Personal Information

                Dr. Neerja A. Gupta is the Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. She has previously served as Vice-Chancellor of Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies, M.P., and Principal of Bhavan’s College, Gujarat, where she helped develop the Department of Foreign Studies. With a Ph.D. in English, Dr. Gupta has 36 years of experience in academia, research, and administration. She is the Chief Editor of the international journal Bharatiya Manyaprad and proficient in multiple languages, including Russian, Greek, and nine Indian languages. She has authored 22 books and over 60 publications, guided 27 Ph.D. students, and led various research projects funded by national and international agencies.

                Her expertise spans literature, Indology, Gandhian thought, Indian culture, and classical dance (Kathak). She played a significant role as Principal Director in the Ministry of Home Affairs' study on Jammu and Kashmir, contributing to the abrogation of Article 370. Dr. Gupta has traveled to 42 countries for academic work, participated in over 400 conferences, and delivered numerous invited talks worldwide.

                Recognized for her contributions, she has received several awards, including the Bharat Kirtiman Padak 2023, Aaj Ka Karmveer Award 2022, and Shiksha Bharati Puruskar 2011. She has also been actively involved in disaster relief efforts and has represented India in educational delegations globally. Her theme paper on G-20 was notably mentioned by Prime Minister Modi in Mann Ki Baat in 2023.

Dr. Tarang Solanki anchored the program & Dr. Harpal Rana presented the vote of thanks. The program was attended by students in large numbers, all the HODs, faculty members & convened by Prof. Sujatha Sony Onattu, Director of School of Social Sciences, Gujarat University.

Key speakers included Prof. Dr. Nirja Gupta, who praised the gender-centric approach of the new laws, and experts like Dr. Rishikesh Mehta and Dr. Rakhi Kataria, who discussed significant updates in the Indian Penal Code and Evidence Act. The seminar concluded with a call for effective implementation of these laws, providing a valuable platform for legal professionals, academics, and students to engage in meaningful discussions.

The Department of Psychology at Gujarat University, in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Health Psychology (IAHP), hosted a Two-Day National Workshop on "Unlocking The Mind: Forensic Psychology in Criminal Investigations" on September 10th and 11th, 2024. Inaugurated by Honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Neerja Gupta, the workshop attracted 110 participants from across the state and focused on the essential role of forensic psychology within the criminal justice system. Key speakers included Dr. Asha Shrivastava and other esteemed experts from the National Forensic Sciences University, who addressed various topics related to forensic psychology's applications in investigations, legal proceedings, and mental health assessments. The event aimed to enhance understanding and practical skills in this vital field, fostering discussions on its implications for criminal investigations.
