Dr. Neerja A. Gupta is the Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. She has previously served as Vice-Chancellor of Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies, M.P., and Principal of Bhavan’s College, Gujarat, where she helped develop the Department of Foreign Studies. With a Ph.D. in English, Dr. Gupta has 36 years of experience in academia, research, and administration. She is the Chief Editor of the international journal Bharatiya Manyaprad and proficient in multiple languages, including Russian, Greek, and nine Indian languages. She has authored 22 books and over 60 publications, guided 27 Ph.D. students, and led various research projects funded by national and international agencies.
Her expertise spans literature, Indology, Gandhian thought, Indian culture, and classical dance (Kathak). She played a significant role as Principal Director in the Ministry of Home Affairs' study on Jammu and Kashmir, contributing to the abrogation of Article 370. Dr. Gupta has traveled to 42 countries for academic work, participated in over 400 conferences, and delivered numerous invited talks worldwide.
Recognized for her contributions, she has received several awards, including the Bharat Kirtiman Padak 2023, Aaj Ka Karmveer Award 2022, and Shiksha Bharati Puruskar 2011. She has also been actively involved in disaster relief efforts and has represented India in educational delegations globally. Her theme paper on G-20 was notably mentioned by Prime Minister Modi in Mann Ki Baat in 2023.
